In this section, we present the mainstream international media’s obsession with Turkey. Many articles and news stories on Turkey are being written and they mostly repeat some certain stereotypical expressions regarding Turkish democracy and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Here we have three keywords: authoritarian, paranoid and sultan. We looked these words up in 11 main sources and in many others starting from 31 May 2013, the outbreak of the Gezi protests, until the summer of 2017 and listed the related sentences. The result is around 1,500 entries which repeat over and over again the same phrases.
