An interesting alliance in the USA: The 'Turkish Democracy Project'

An association called the Turkish Democracy Project was established in Washington, the capital of the USA. Trump's former security adviser John Bolton and George W. Bush's brother Jeb Bush are among the founders of the association.

Although the Biden administration has officially announced that it will not interfere in the internal affairs of foreign countries, it is not difficult to guess that interference will continue through some civil institutions.

Alongside the Biden administration, which has recently been very interested in intervening in Turkey's domestic politics, a new group has emerged in the USA, devoted to bringing democracy to Turkey.

John Bolton, one of former US President Donald Trump's national security advisers, and Aykan Erdemir, who has an arrest warrant against him for activities with the Fetullah Terrorist Organisation (FETO), are among the founders of the association.

According to the statement on the association's website, ‘The Turkish Democracy Project is committed to encouraging Turkey to adopt more democratic policies and responding to the steady erosion of Turkey’s democratic institutions, human rights protections, and economic well-being. We believe Turkey can once again be a reliable regional and international partner by rededicating itself to the foundational tenets of democracy and cultural freedom. To this end, we hope to provide a clear path forward by encouraging democratic reform through dialogue and advocacy.’

John Bolton shared a tweet on his official Twitter account targeting Turkey and Erdogan, saying that ‘It's time to sound the alarm on Turkey. Under an authoritarian leader, a once-reliable NATO ally is turning its back on democracy and embracing Russia. I'm pleased to join the Turkish Democracy Project advisory council to shine a light on the darkening situation.’

It is noteworthy that the association's declaration directly targets President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkey.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush targeted Turkey and said that ‘(a) democratic Turkey is essential for our security, but freedom is disappearing in Turkey. Turkey's authoritarian leader is determined to silence pro-freedom voices. Please follow the “Turkish Democracy Project.”’

A statement made by the Turkish Democracy Project claimed that ‘it is a nonprofit, non-partisan, international policy organisation formed in response to Turkey’s recent turn away from democracy and toward authoritarianism.

It also stated that ‘for the better part of the last century, Turkey was a reliable ally and a model in the region of liberal ideals and cultural freedom. But in recent years, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has dramatically altered Turkey’s position in the international community and its status as a free and liberal democracy’.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office decided to confiscate the assets of former CHP Deputy Aykan Erdemir, who has a warrant for his arrest, as part of an investigation carried out against FETO.

Following the failure of FETO's 17/25 December judicial coup attempt against the Government and Constitutional order of the Republic of Turkey, the Istanbul 6th Criminal Court of Peace said that Aykan Erdemir provided fake reports to the New York district court.

For this reason, the judge decided to confiscate all the movable and immovable assets of the suspect Erdemir, all his rights and receivables from banks, companies and all other institutions and company shares. Meanwhile, it was learned that photos of the meeting held in the USA 13 days before 17 December 2013 were also included in the investigation file. It is claimed that the meeting in question was planned for the December 17 coup attempt with FETO and that Erdemir was a mediator of this meeting.

It is a fact that US President Donald Trump used vulgar language to slam former top US intelligence officials, including former National Security Advisor John Bolton, calling them ‘dirty cops’ and ‘sleazebags.’

John Bolton, one of the dumbest people I’ve met in government and sadly, I’ve met plenty, states often that I respected, and even trusted, Vladimir Putin of Russia more than those in our Intelligence Agencies,’ Trump said on Twitter of Bolton, who he appointed to the post in April 2018 and later fired.

In his period of presidency, Trump repeatedly and publicly challenged the findings of US intelligence agencies, especially on charges of Russian interference in US elections, saying he instead believes Russian President Vladimir Putin’s denials.

After Trump fired Bolton, Bolton wrote a book critical of his former boss, criticising Trump's lack of knowledge, his reckless views and his unhealthy relationship with Putin.

It is a matter of fact that Bolton was fired and sent away by his former boss. This incompetent and inexperienced man is now trying to confuse Turkey. The Turkish Democracy Project only aims to demolish the positive public opinion of Turkey.
